Next event: 'Our Changing Seas: Marine Life in Lyme Bay'

an illustrated talk by Julie Hatcher of Dorset Wildlife Trust.

Thursday March 8th at 7.30 in Thorncombe Village Hall.

Thorncombe Village Trust was founded in the 1980’s by a group of local people who saw the need for a non-profit organisation which would work to preserve the area’s special characteristics and rich historical environment. The village was being threatened by overdevelopment and it became clear that a co-ordinated effort was needed to ensure that the individuality and special qualities of the village were protected. For more details see About the TVT

Thorncombe lies in a very beautiful part of West Dorset, bordering Devon and Somerset. It falls within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) . The Parish is over 5,200 acres in extent and is principally agricultural land.

Fields tend to be small and hilly with ancient hedgerows, while the access roads to the village are very narrow lanes, shaded in summer by tall trees including oaks, beeches and sycamores, and fringed with primroses, bluebells and cow parsley.

At a recent meeting with our MP, Oliver Letwin, Trust committee members and invited members of the Parish Council  discussed the implications of forthcoming changes to the planning system, the National Planning Policy Framework, and the Localism Bill.  Approved minutes of this meeting can be read here.            Read a summary of this new legislation
